In an exclusive, emotional interview with Rolling Stone's David Fricke, Frances Bean Cobain, 23, now a visual artist, speaks out for the first time about growing up as the daughter of the famous Nirvana singer-guitarist, Kurt Cobain and about HBO's upcoming documentary on her dad, "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," of which she is executive producer.

The Rolling Stone interview marks the 21st anniversary of the musician's death, who died of a suicide in 1994.   In the interview, Frances described Kurt's fame as a sacrifice of himself for his art, because his fans expected so much from him.  She thinks that the pressure got to her father, which was probably why he was no longer around.

Admitting that she is not particularly a fan of Nirvana, Frances said she was rather more into Mercury Rev, Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre. She says, "The grunge scene is not what I'm interested in."

However she does admit that she likes "Dumb,"  saying that the song makes her emotional because it reminded her of her father's perception of himself who had always felt inadequate to being known as "the voice of a generation."

The documentary, "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," which Frances described as "emotional journalism," is set for its theatrical premiere on April 10.   She says the film seeks to portray a man who struggled to be human in the midst of his fame.  Written and directed by Brett Morgen, the authorized documentary traces the late musician's life from his early days in Aberdeen, Washington to his rise and downfall with the band Nirvana.
