The alleged killer of three, Robert Durst, looked confused and obviously frail, and even needed assistance getting to the courtroom podium, but once he was settled, he made a clear proclamation of his innocence.

As reported by the Associated Press, the millionaire and heir to a New York real estate fortune told Franz Zibilich, the Criminal District Court Judge overseeing his case, "Oh, I am not guilty, your honor," during his arraignment in New Orleans last Thursday on drug charges and state weapons.

Garbed in a yellow jumpsuit and hands chained to his sides, Robert, 71, attended his court hearing for charges of a felon possessing a firearm and of possessing a firearm with a controlled substance.

Robert, whose birthday is on Sunday, appeared weaker than usual, that he even relied on his powerful lawyers to help him understand the proceedings.

When he was asked to go to the courtroom podium to declare his plea, his lawyers had to carry him up from his chair to his feet.

His lead lawyer Dick DeGuerin was seen whispering to his ear before he said that he wasn't guilty as Robert couldn't hear what the judge was saying.

When the judge spoke and clarified if he was saying he isn't guilty for both counts, Dick whispered again to his hear before he answered, "Yes, your honor."

Robert, as well as his defense team were all hopeful that the charges will be dropped in Louisiana so his extradition to California could be released. In L.A., he's faced with a first-degree murder warrant for the murder of his best friend Susan Berman, who was found shot execution-style in her own home in Beverly Hills back in 2000.

His arraignment may delay his extradition, since he and his attorneys must now fight his weapons and drug charges in Louisiana.

Last March 14, one day before the The Jinx's finale aired, federal agents went to the J.W. Marriot hotel in New Orleans to arrest Robert. There they found him with a revolver and marijuana. His lawyers challenged the agents' arrest of Robert and said that they didn't have a search warrant.

Since Robert was arrested, he has been in prison without bond in one of the medical units at a correctional facility outside of New Orleans.

On top of the charges he's faced with, he might also be slapped with a federal weapons charge. An FBI affidavit reveals that Robert might face a different federal charge for being a felon with a firearm due to his previous firearm conviction back in 2004.

After his arraignment, Dick talked to reporters and said that Robert would be present on Thursday in federal court over the possible federal charge.

"I feel like we're being tag-teamed and I feel like we've got to be in California where the main case is so we can try the case," he told reporters.
