Faster Rides in Mario Kart 8 with Release of 200cc Mode

Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart 8 will receive a free update on April 23. The update will give players the fastest mode yet -- 200cc.

Mario Kart 8 players start racing with 50cc mode. Once players acquire some driving skills, they are ready for the 100cc mode. Those that love the challenge to drive very fast can tackle the 150cc mode.  If that's not enough, the upcoming 200cc mode can satisfy their need for speed.

The second DLC pack for the Mario Kart 8 will also be released on April 23. Originally, the DLC pack was supposed to be released in May.  Nintendo seems to have changed its mind and has decided to launch it a month earlier, however.

The 200cc mode is expected to work on the new tracks of the upcoming DLC pack. In addition, three new drivers will be included: Dry Bowser, Isabelle and Villager.

Four new vehicles and eight new courses were also added. One of the courses includes an Animal Crossing course where the season changes every time it's played.

The new DLC will be sold for US$8. Nintendo is also releasing at least nine Amiibo Mii race outfits that will include one each for Pac-Man and Mega Man. Amiibo toys are quickly becoming Nintendo's best selling times. Last year, Nintendo sold more than 2.6 million of them

Mario Kart 8 was released for the Wii U system on May 30, 20014. The first DLC came out last November. The first pack was a Zelda themed DLC.

It contained three drivers: Cat Peach, Link and Tanooki Mario. It also featured eight tracks and four new vehicles.

Based on NPD statistics, around 1.7 million physical and digital copies of Mario Kart 8 were sold in the United States alone last year.
