Microsoft recently launched an MS-DOS mobile app for the Windows Lumia smartphones. Thankfully, this was simply a part of an April Fool's joke pulled by the Windows maker.

MS-DOS was the operating system used back then. For those unfamiliar with this once popular OS, you need to type "DIR" to list down all the apps in your phone. To enter into one of the directories, you used the CD command.

Although a prank, the DOS app will certainly bring the nostalgia back to people that used it for many years. Taking a selfie using the camera app will result in your image appearing in ASCII or CGA format.

The MS-DOS app also features an old favorite game -- Rock Paper Scissors.  It was a simple game during computing's much simpler times.

You can also set your smartphone back to the earliest Windows OS.  Type WIN and the screen will transform itself to Windows 3.1.

There are several commands you can use to complete MS-DOS experience.

Type COLOR and the MS-DOS screen will be presented in various colors. "DATE" will show you the date.

Type the word VER to get current version of your MS-DOS. Type format C: and watch Cortana do something.

Typing WIN will launch the Windows 3.1. Typing "A" will help you gain access to a floppy disk. For those that have no idea what a floppy disk is, think of it as a very big SD card that also stores data.

To uncover more commands, type HELP.

Unfortunately, this Microsoft MS-DOS app prank can only work on Windows smartphones. A YouTube video was also launched to present the MS-DOS app to the general public.

Several Microsoft people were also interviewed to give it a veneer of authenticity. You could watch the April prank video here.
