Apple Poised for Biggest Ever Launch with iPhone 6

Initial orders for the heavily hyped iPhone 6 are likely to hit 80 million units, making the new phone Apple, Inc.'s most successful yet.

This total compares to the 60 million iPhone 5s and 5c devices booked during the same period last year.

A slew of "leaks" both intentional and unintentional and the clearly fascinating technologies it promises has made the iPhone 6 launch scheduled for November one of the most hotly anticipated.

The new and practically indestructible phone with a massive camera will send loads of holiday cheer into the halls of Apple, Inc. this coming yuletide season. The holiday quarter is traditionally Apple's strongest.

Multiple media reports now confirm what leaks over the past months have speculated: Apple will sell two versions of the iPhone 6: one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with a larger 5.5-inch screen.

The 5.5-inch will compete against Samsung and other Android phone makers in the high growth and rewarding phablet market.

The 4.7-inch model will begin coming off the line in August while production of the 5.5-inch model will start in September.

The iPhone 6 will come with a practically indestructible sapphire crystal display; a faster A8 processor and 13 megapixel camera. It could also have NFC technology that makes mobile payments more convenient.

Apple intends to avoid a mistake made last year of underestimating consumer demand. It has told its suppliers in Taiwan and China to build 60 percent more iPhone 6s compared to the total for last year's two iPhone 5 models, the 5s and 5c.

In 2013, Apple was caught wrong footed when demand for the high-end 5s exceeded estimates while demand for the low-end 5c came in weaker.

Analysts widely expect the iPhone 6 to be the most successful iPhone launch in the history of the product. Sales of iPhones account for about half of Apple's revenue.
