In the video, the "Girls" star says that in 2007, when she became pregnant with her boyfriend then, she wasn't sure about spending the rest of her life with him. "My life was just not conducive to raising a healthy, happy child. I didn't feel it was fair," she said.

According to her, she kept her pregnancy and abortion a secret from her parents  (her father is Simon Kirke, former Bad Company drummer, and her mother is Lorraine Kirke, a fashion designer), paying for her abortion from her bank account, some money from her boyfriend, and forgoing the anesthesia.

Although she still thinks it is shameful and embarrassing for terminating pregnancies, Kirke still believes it is important for women to be able to talk freely about reproductive issues.

The actress also hopes that one day, her daughters' experience of reproductive rights will not be like hers and already anticipates their issues with self-esteem, their bodies, and all that comes with being a woman.

At the end of Kirke's video, people were encouraged to share their own experiences that concern reproductive issues and were also asked for support by signing a petition on the website.

The Center for Reproductive Rights is the only global legal advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights as a fundamental human right. The Center hopes that one day every woman will be free to decide whether to have children or not and to have access to the best reproductive healthcare available.
