Simon Cowell Speaks Up About Gay Claims + Contostavlos Drug Trial Trashed by Court

Simon Cowell's legal advisers have refuted the claims made on his private life by Gareth Varey during the collapsed drug trial of Tulisa Contostavlos.

During the trial the previous week, Gareth Varey was proven to have made the assertions against the media magnate through a recorded conversation with 'fake seikh' Mazher Mahmood, another involved party in the drug investigation case against former X Factor Judge Tulisa Contostavlos.

In the conversation recorded at the Metropolitan hotel on May 2013, Mahmood asked the PA if Simon Cowell is gay to which Varey answered "yes" but admittedly stated that he hadn't slept with him.

Moreover, in the recording, the PA to Tulisa Contostavlos claimed to have knowledge regarding the people that Simon Cowell allegedly slept with.

"Simon was referred to during the trial without forewarning resulting in widespread media coverage of untrue claims regarding his private life," a new statement released by Simon's legal representatives read.

Further statement says, "In 2014 the question of whether someone is or is not gay is antiquated...However, the issue was the false suggestion made by Mr. Varey that Simon - who is renowned for his honesty and candidness - had thus not been truthful in the public arena and this is what we have been obliged to clarify."

On the other hand, the July 21 trial against Tulisa Contostavlos had been thrown out of court after the presiding judge decided on strong grounds that Sun on Sunday undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood prevaricated even after presenting evidence to the court.

Said journalist has been suspended from the magazine until further investigation.

Previously, Tulisa Contostavlos was charged with dealing cocaine with an undercover Sun reporter, who pretended to be a film producer and lured the singer in by promising her a role in a supposedly "big production" with A-List actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Mahmood, who used the pseudonym Samir Khan, also otherwise known as 'fake seikh', went to Las Vegas and London to discuss future opportunities with the singer.

Defense accused the journalist of manipulating and misleading the singer, but he denied them, saying, "The motive here is in the public interest to expose criminality."

After the trial collapsed, Tulisa Contostavlos released a statement to the press, tightly denying allegations and claiming to have been the victim of a setup orchestrated by Mahzer Mahmood.
