Sarah Jessica Parker Stars in New HBO Comedy Series "Divorce"

After taking a long break from television, Sarah Jessica Parker is coming back to HBO with a new promising comedy series. The cable network has given "Divorce" a series order, a comedy written by Sharon Horgan and top lined by the "Sex & The City" star.

The show will be Sarah's first major TV role since Sex & The City ended. The pilot episode is directed by Jesse Peretz and co-stars Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam and Thomas Haden Church and has been gaining momentum since it was pitched to HBO.

The show's writer, Sharon, will serve as an executive producer through her production company, Merman Films, along with Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Paul Simms. Alison Benson, as well as Sarah will also executive produce through Sarah's Pretty Matches Productions. 

"Divorce," which will be filmed in New York City, focuses on the story of a tremendously long divorce. The show centers on Sarah's character, Frances, a woman who attempts to reevaluate her marriage and her life and finds that starting over with a clean slate is much harder than the she imagined. Thomas plays Sarah's husband in the series; Talia is Frances' close friend; while Molly is Frances' temperamental friend.

Sharon's credentials include creating and starring in her own series the "Pulling," "Dead Boss," "Bad Management" and the most recent, "Catastrophe," whose season 1 launches in June on Amazon and which has already been renewed for its second season." She has teamed up with Aaron of Kapital Entertainment for the U.S. adaptation of the first three series, with all of them already going to pilot.

Divorce is Sharon's first series in the United States. 

Meanwhile, Divorce will join two of HBO's critically-praised series led by female actors, Girls and Veep. Moreover, HBO has a new comedy pilot currently in consideration, which stars comedian Sarah Silverman.
