Latino Advocate Promises No Republican President If Border Crisis Is Ignored

One of the largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organizations in the U.S. issued a warning to Republicans last Monday to assist young refugees crossing the border and act on the country's immigration reform lest they want to lose the election.

During the third day of the largest Latino advocacy assembly held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Janet Murgia, president of the National Council of La Raza said she is "sickened" by how Americans reacted to young refugees.

She expressed her displeasure at the convention regarding the current immigration situation and bluntly blamed House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for the Congress deadlock on the immigration reform.

Thousands of children from Central America flee to the U.S to escape abuse and poverty hoping to find a better life across the border.

However, the sudden influx of young migrants had overwhelmed residents along the border and its resources. The influx resulted in congestion that forced the Department of Homeland Security to relocate many of the children to Murrieta, California.

Upon their arrival, dozens of anti-immigration protesters blocked their path.

"The plight of these child refugees has sadly brought out the worst in a lot of people," Murrieta exclaimed highlighting her resentment at how the protesters tried to "cloak their hatred in patriotism, shouting 'USA! USA!"

She described the reaction as 'un-American' adding that: "There is nothing more un-American than deliberately frightening an already traumatized group of kids -- some of them were still in diapers. There's nothing more un-American than a mob taking the law into their own hands and preventing authorities from doing their job processing these refugees."

The Latino advocate condemned how armed soldiers confronted the children, who are seeking protection in the country. She enumerated the names of what she called "shameful" Republican officials that included Murrieta Mayor Alan Long, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) and Texas Governor Rick Perry who sent a thousand soldiers from the National Guard to the border.

Eliciting cheers from the crowd, Murguia urged her fellow Latinos to watch very closely how Republicans would address the immigration crisis and vowing that no Republican will ever become president if the border crisis is not acted upon soon.
