Rapper Kanye West has written an introspective and revealing essay for Paper, a New York City-based independent magazine that focuses on pop culture and art.  In more than 2,000 words the rapper talks about his role as artist, his fashion line, social media, and even mentions the Illuminati and his reasons for not being able to concentrate his music.

Describing the kind of music he does, West says that he doesn't consider himself a true musician but he is rather more of an "inventor" and  an "innovator."  He also says he doesn't like to capitalize on something that's been heard a number of times already.

West, who is part of Jay Z's Tidal streaming service, said that he was tired of people referring to musicians as the illuminati. He says that they, the musicians are celebrities who have to compromise their lyrics in order to earn.

It's been nearly five months since his last album and the rapper also says that he finds it difficult to concentrate on music, focusing 70 per cent of his time instead on his fashion line, which lately did not get good reviews.  He said he is aware that his career as a fashion designer is still in its infancy and goes on to say that "bravery and courage" are what is needed to go through the pain of designing and knows that things will get better.  He quotes Steve Jobs and said, "there is no easy way out."

West continues to say that people are asking him why he doesn't speak out on social media about events happening in the country such as the recent deaths in Chicago. He wrote that people the globe die without a reason and that he cares a lot about people and society and what is important for him is people getting inspired and believing in themselves.

Apparently a fan of Steve Jobs, West said that he began questioning the meaning of life and the key to happiness while he was under the dentist's nitrous gas, according to him, his version of Job's LSD trip.
