It came as no surprise when Halle Berry expressed that she was happy to play the role of an expectant mother in her new TV series 'Extant'.

On an interview for the promotion of the drama, the 47-year old actress said, "I'm the happiest in my life when I have been pregnant, truly. So to be pregnant again on a show right after giving birth didn't scare me at all. I thought, 'I'm going to ace that part of this, for sure!'"

Truly, Halle Berry loved it when she had been pregnant with her second child, baby Maceo who is now 8 months old. The actress had also been excited about her challenging role for the new drama.

'Extant' is a sci-fi drama with 13 episodes that features the actress and played the lead role. In the story, Halle Berry's character is a woman who spent 13 months in space alone to complete a solo mission when she comes home to find out that she was inexplicably pregnant.

The character the actress would play was supposedly infertile and she realizes that the child she bears isn't exactly human but the world's first artificially intelligent humanoid.

One of the producers who worked behind 'Extant' is none other than Steven Spielberg who is great in the sci-fi genre. Halle Berry considers working with the renowned filmmaker as the icing to the cake.

"A name like that, you don't really sneeze at. I know the quality of his work and I know that he loves this sort of genre. This was a character that when I first read the script was so relatable to me. While I'm not an astronaut or scientist - far, far from it - I still had an understanding about the human quality of this woman and her struggle to not only find time for herself, but also to be a good mother. The fact that she's a scientist becomes a little bit irrelevant pretty fast. It becomes very human," the actress added.

The drama series has recently been on the receiving end of great feedback and reviews, particularly on the actress' acting.

Having recently played the real life role of a pregnant mother, Halle Berry had given her role a more convincing edge through her first-hand experience as a mother of two.

The first episode which aired recently garnered 9.6 million viewers. This made 'Extant' the most-viewed television show during its premiere week.

Catch Halle Berry on her new drama 'Extant', airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
