Peter Chan To Take Legal Action Against Creative Team of Andy Lau's 'Lost and Love'

Director Peng Sanyuan's drama movie "Lost and Love" has been accused of plagiarizing Peter Chan's "Dearest," which follows the same theme. Both movies are inspired by a real-life story about a parent who travels all over China in search for his/her kidnapped child.

"Lost and Love" features Andy Lau while "Dearest" was led by Vicki Zhao, who won the Best Actress award for her role in the film at the 34th Hong Kong Film Awards.

When "Dearest" premiered in Hong Kong in January, there were rumors going around that Director Peter Chan somehow heard about the "Lost and Love" project and took the idea as his own. Reports said that he rushed the production of "Dearest" so it can be released before "Lost and Love", which premiered last month.

Peter, who took offense at the damaging rumors, previously spoke up about the issue and insisted that he did not know anything about "Lost and Love" before he started with "Dearest". According to him, their stories were entirely different.

However, Peter seemed to have had a change of heart, as he just announced that he will be providing the creative team of "Lost and Love" a legal letter. Hammered by reporters with questions, he simply asked them to wait for his official statement.

As for why the director decided to wait this long to take legal action, sources close to the situation explained that he wanted to wait until he had enough evidence to prove that his script was plagiarized.

Andy, who had guest appearances on Sandra Ng, Peter Chan's wife's Golden Chicken series, was noticeably absent in the comedy film "12 Golden Ducks", which led to speculations that Andy and Sandra might have fallen out due to her husband's issue with Andy's "Lost and Love" movie.

Asked about her opinion on the plagiarism scandal, Sandra chose to keep mum and said, "I will not respond to these questions."
