Queen Elizabeth II Manages Grand Photobomb in Scotland

The Australian women's national field hockey team received a queenly photobomb when Queen Elizabeth made a spontaneous visit during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday.

The team, known as the "Hockeyroos," was warming down after the victory over Malaysia with a score of 4-0 when the queen of England appeared early for the England-Wales match taking place right after Australia's game.

The teammates were euphoric over the unscheduled appearance and promptly took selfies, aiming to get a picture of the queen as she strolled by.

"Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie," Jayde Taylor tweeted on Thursday, showing Queen Elizabeth behind them with a gleeful smile.

The 88-year-old monarch had arrived in Glasgow the eve of the games to kick off the events during the opening program.

When she spotted the Australian women's national team after their victory at Glasgow Hockey Stadium, the queen made her way over to the Hockeyroos and started conversing with a number of them.

"We were warming down on the second pitch after our game and the queen came out to meet Donny [captain of the team, Madonna Blyth ]," Taylor said after the unexpected encounter.

"She asked us a bit about the pitch, how we were going and told us to enjoy our time here," Taylor continued. "She was lovely, really, really lovely."

Taylor, the 29-year-old defender from Perth, Western Australia, revealed that the photobomb from the monarch took some careful orchestrating.

"Brooke [Peris] and I planned it so that when she came out the door she would be behind us," Taylor said. "And then she came out and smiled at the camera. We were in the right spot at the right time."

Their calculated selfie skills gave rise to one of the most amusing photos of Queen Elizabeth in the Commonwealth Games to date.
