For Mother's Day, Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher surprised his mom Diane by remodelling her home in Homestead, Iowa using a mobile app.

The Hollywood actor documented his home improvement project on film and said that it was his Mother's Day gift for her. The home improvement project, which he did with the help of a mobile app called Houzz, was also one of Ashton Kutcher's ways of showing appreciation to his mom.

Ashton Kutcher says his mother is the greatest influence of his life and has made great sacrifices just to give him the life he has right now. So, this Mother's Day gift is just a simple way to reciprocate her love.

He remodelled his mother's home remotely from Beverly Hills through the said mobile app at the online design site, Houzz. Ashton Kutcher's Mother's Day gift stemmed from his desire to expand the home which he and his stepfather built when he was 13 years old in order to accommodate his growing family, now that he has a daughter, Wyatt Isabelle.

Caught on film was his mom's tearful delight when she saw the renovation --- a fitting gift indeed for Mother's Day. Drawing inspiration from the ideas on the mobile app, Ashton Kutcher had the original American-style living room dramatically redesigned into a lighter minimalist, modern room complete with a large wide screen television and modernized fireplace.

Ashton Kutcher also remodelled one of the bedrooms with bunk beds in case his mother's grandchildren decide to sleep over.

With the Houzz mobile app, it only took Kutcher 27 days to complete the renovation and home improvement before Mother's Day. The site contains thousands of home design ideas for inspiration and a list of professionals, from architects to interior designers and contractors to help the user find the right professionals based on the preferred style and budget.

The Houzz mobile app also offers products such as home accessories and furniture that can be bought just by using a cell phone or tablet. 

Ashton Kutcher was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His mother Diane Finnegan, is of German, Irish, and Czech ancestry who then worked as an employee of Procter & Gamble.

His father, Larry M. Kutcher is of Czech descent and at that time, worked as a factory worker. Ashton Kutcher has a fraternal twin brother named Michael and an older sister named Tausha.
