It was November of 2013 when Hugh Jackman first noticed a red spot on his nose, which he simply dismissed as a scratch due to filming Wolverine.

He recalls that he was filming for X Men: Days of Future Past, when his makeup artist pointed out "the little spot of blood" on his nose. He simply told her that it was just a scratch from a fight sequence and left it at that, especially since he's been playing Wolverine for 17 years and had experienced his fair share of cuts and bruises.

However, after a week, his makeup artist told him about the red mark again, to which he replied that it must have dried up and that he accidentally rubbed it off. After another week, the makeup artist told the 47-year old actor to go have it checked and her wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, agreed. In fact, Hugh said that his wife kept urging him to visit a doctor until he did.

That was when he found out that he had the type of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma.

Hugh admits that he was shocked when he heard the word "cancer," but somehow gave the impression that he knew because he then followed it up with a confession that he never applied sunscreen when he was growing up, which made him a prime candidate.

He explained that the kind of cancer he has was what one would want to have if one has to have it. The doctor told him that it's cancerous and it will grow, but he simply has to get it out.

The Prisoners actor had already removed four skin cancers in the last year and a half, one, which was on his shoulder and three on his nose. Since then, he launched his own line of sunscreen for kids, "Pure Sun Defense," hoping to make people more aware of how sun exposure can result in extremely serious complications.

He revealed that he visits his doctor for checkups every three months and that it has become "the new normal" for him. Hugh's doctor, Michael Albom, also gave people some advice and said that if you see a bump, lump, growth, or anything that looks odd, go have it checked immediately and get a biopsy if needed.
