Los Angeles Lakers Woos Byron Scott to be Next Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) has made an offer to former Lakers star Byron Scott to fill-up its vacant head coach position.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach, Scott, has long been considered by the Lakers for the head-coaching job and Scott has long awaited the offer.

Scott has won three NBA championships in his 11 seasons playing with the Lakers. He was among the number of candidates, including Kurt Rambis, George Karl, Mike Dunleavy, being considered for the coaching job.

But a big factor came in to play as star Kobe Bryant reportedly wants Scott as coach.

Scott and Bryant have been teammates with the Lakers during the 1996-1997 season, when Bryant was a rookie and Scott was about to retire from basketball.

Scott has been coach for four franchises. He started off as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings in 1998 and landed his first head-coaching job with the New Jersey Nets in 2000. He led the team to two NBA Finals appearances, the only two recorded in the history of the franchise.

In 2004, Scott took over as head coach for the New Orleans Hornets, which won their first and only division title in 2008.

Scott's last head-coaching job was with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, when he resumed position a few days before Cleveland star LeBron James left for the Miami Heat.

The Lakers had the head coach position vacant since Mike D'Antoni resigned last May.

If Scott and the Lakers come to an agreement, Scott will be heading players like Bryant, Steve Nash, Carlos Boozer, Jeremy Lin, Julius Randle, Ed Davis and a mix of serious defenders.
