Top Motorola Executive Announces Moto X Lollipop Update Will Be Ready In A Few Weeks

An official statement from Motorola's top executive recently confirmed that the first generation Moto X smartphones will finally receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade "in a few weeks."

Motorola senior director of software product management Dave Schuster said, "I know that a lot of people have been asking about the status of the Moto X (1st Gen) Lollipop upgrade. I can see the frustration and in some cases the anger about how long it has taken to get the upgrade deployed."

According to Android Police, one of the main issue that has greatly affected the delay is the unusual computing platform of the X8 mobile computing system.

The executive added that the delay of the Lollipop update was traced back to the unfavorable support from company partners. Motorola has already started rolling out TestDrive for the Moto X Lollipop upgrade in the US and Latin American region. Once everything is up and running, the upgrade will take no more than a week to be rolled out.

The Moto X was launched in 2013 running on the Android Jelly Bean operating system.  The smartphone later receive the Android KitKat upgrade and since then, no major OS upgrade was made.

Motorola has already announced in April that the Moto X will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade and will skip the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop version.

Among the major updates to be included in the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be the reintroduction of the Silent Mode which was removed in the Android 5.0 update. The update will also improve system stability and better memory and battery management. Unexpected app closure, Wi-Fi and sound problems were also addressed in the Android 5.1 update.

Several Motorola devices is expected to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. This includes Moto X, Moto G, Moto E and several DROID devices, according to Gospel Herald.
