China has always been open to welcoming new technology and gadgets, however, the Chinese Army is against the use of wearable technology as it could lead to the tracking of its soldiers and increase the threat of data leaks.

China has earned its reputation as one of the best markets of smartphone consumers indicating that the country and its people are quite open to the idea of accepting technology in various forms. Recently, even when the smartwatch by Apple hit the Chinese markets, the sales figures reaffirmed the Chinese preference of techno gear; however, in a shocking incident, the Chinese has voiced its opinion strongly against the use of such wearable technology amongst its soldiers.

According to  NBC News that quotes a news piece carried in Liberation Army Daily report, the country's most widely read military newspaper, the Chinese army believe that use of such technology could actually hamper the government's effort to boost the cyber security infrastructure and seal the loopholes.

The incident hit limelight when a Chinese soldier used the newly gifted smartphone watch to click a photo of his fellow colleagues and was interrupted by his senior officials who immediately reported the matter to the military authorities. Soon after this, the authorities were quick to initiate action and ban the devices. Another report on Nydailynews confirms the ban saying that Chinese Army feels that the usage of smartwatches and other such devices ,where one can click pictures or record high definition audio, actually give access to a third party into the movements and activities of the soldiers, making it a huge security threat.

Meanwhile, this ban comes soon after a bizarre incident where a Chinese TV anchor was reportedly wearing something that was vaguely similar to the Apple smartwatch. There were also accusations claiming that the anchor was simply trying to show off her wealth; however, there is no confirmed link between the two incidents.
