Extended Trailer For ‘Supergirl’ Gives Us First Look; CBS Shaking Things Up

An extended trailer for "Supergirl" was recently released by CBS, giving fans a much-awaited look at the new series.

The six-minute trailer for the new CBS series shows viewers a day in the life of Kara Danvers, portrayed by Melissa Benoist, who was brought to earth the same way Superman was--in a capsule. Working in a normal job as an assitant for a media mogul, she has tried to hide her powers ever since she could remember, but after saving her sister Alex and an entire plane from crashing, she is propelled into a whirlwind of adventure, saving crime, and is enlisted in battling sinster threats, as reported by GeekTyrant.

Kara Danvers is played by Melissa Benoist, more notable for her role as Marley Rose from the FOX show "Glee," alongside other TV series veterans: Kara's sister, Alex Danvers, played by "Grey's Anatomy" alum Chyler Leigh; media mogul Cat Grant is Calista Flockhart, who played the titular character in the 90's show "Ally McBeal"; and Dean Cain, who picked up the mantle of Superman for the TV series "Lois and Clark."

It is coming off as a surprise to some people that CBS, a network that usually centers itself with procedurals and crime dramas as Forbes said, is choosing the superhero route. Then again, looking at a wider scope, most networks are turning in their reality shows and sitcoms and are slowly cashing in on adaptations.

In fact, CBS is slowly moving their scheduling to accommodate more shows from adaptations, as CNN observed. The Eye Network, as CNN calls them, is slated to have a "Rush Hour" and "Limitless" series, both adapted from movies with the same names. "Supergirl" landed on a Monday slot, which has carried the comedy genre for more than 50 years now, pushing back "The Big Bang Theory" into a different slot.

Overall, CBS is shaking things up, and the fall list of shows is garnering excitement for everyone.
