The Guiyang city building collapse, brought about by heavy rainfall in the area, happened at approximately 11:30 in the morning, according to reports. Rescuers at the scene said that they believe that at least five from the 21 people who are still missing are trapped.  Names of the residents, missing and save, have not been disclosed while it is also unclear what measures have taken place to connect the residents with their relatives.

Officials of Guiyang city in the Yunyan District had sent a rescue team of over 100 members to the site, who after two hours of checking said that 21 people were unaccounted for. It is still not sure if these residents were in the building at the time of the collapse.

There is no reported death from the incident, as of mid-afternoon, AP said.

Xinhua news agency talked to a resident of the building who recounted that he awoke to the sound of loud noises and was fortunately able to run out early. Another resident said that her daughter in law who lived on the ninth floor of the fallen building cannot be reached through her mobile phone.

Xinhua said that further investigation on the collapse is underway.

Residents from nearby buildings have been taken to safety following the incident. Media footage shows that the building, now in debris, is surrounded by many other residential buildings and trees as well.

According to weather forecasts, the weather in Guiyang will continue to be cloudy with high chances of rain in the coming days.
