David Letterman Says Goodbye to ‘Late Show’

With only a handful of late-night TV talk show hosts to watch, TV will never be the same as David Letterman steps down and aired his last show tonight.

Last night marked the last time that David Letterman will come down and deliver his last opening speech for his show. Down to the very last episode, the late-night host really knew how to spice things up; Deadline reported that he was still very comedic, stating that out of the 6,000 shows, a big percent of those episodes sucked. David also said that despite all the praises the show is getting, he wants them to save some for his funeral.

"Late Show with David Letterman" has become a talk show staple, and it just seemed right that all is contemporaries said goodbye to him properly. Rappler provided a detailed list and links to the clips of talk show hosts with the likes of Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Conan O' Brien, and Ellen Degeneres stating an anecdote about their experience with the great talk show host, while Seth Meyers paid tribute by mimicking the "Late Show" intro bit.

The show had a full run of 33 years, bypassing many other late-night talk shows like Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. It is this show that has been emulated by the hosts listed above, and it is this show that allowed weirdness to become normal on TV.

After David bows out of his hosting gig, he plans to spend time with his family. His band leader and sidekick Paul Shaffer will also be bowing out with him, and he said that he will start to focus on playing the piano and maybe even have a guest appearance in "Law & Order. TIME reported that he will be replaced by Stephen Colbert come September this year.
