Microsoft News: Lumia 640, 640 XL, 940, 940 XL Release Date Revealed

Official tweets from the telecommunications carrier T-Mobile revealed that the Lumia 640 will be made available from July 16. This spelt joy for hard core fans of the brand in United States whose long wait for the handset launched in March will now come to an end.

Reports by The Gospel Herald Technology indicate that the technological giant Microsoft will be announcing the release of both Lumia 640 and 640 XL simultaneously. The Lumia 640 XL will support a bigger display of 5.7-inches over 5-inch display of Lumia 640. It is said that both the handsets will be powered by Windows 8.1 which will be upgradable to Windows 10 soon after purchase.

Adding to the above reports indicate the Lumia 640 will be a pioneer in its regard with its state-of-the-art quad core Snapdragon 400 SoC, with a clocking speed of 1.2 GHz. The handset will also feature 1GB internal storage which will be expandable up to 8GB with 8 MP back camera. Lumia 640, which sports 720 x 1280 pixel display at a pixel density of 294 ppi, will be powered by a 2500 mAh battery, as per International Business Times.

The device will be available with a year's subscription to Office 365 and provides a monthly limit of 60 minutes of Skype Unlimited, in tandem with the 1 TB One Drive Storage; however, experts anticipate the launch of the first Windows 10 smart phones 940 and 940 XL will coincide with the release of the above mentioned devices.

The Lumia 640 will be available at an introductory price of $89 which can increase up to $129.99 while the price of Lumia 940 will be capped at $726. Lumia 940 XL will be priced $140 higher than its predecessor.

In other news, Microsoft is also planning to release its tablet - Surface Pro 4 soon. It is going to have a display size of over 12-inches with reportedly 16 GB RAM. It will provide a lot of competition to the other tablets in this domain and most importantly to the Apple iPad Pro, which is also creating a lot of buzz with its imminent release. Surface Pro 4 is being called a "laplet" - a combination of both laptop and tablet due to its advanced features.
