Roger Federer: Rafael Nadal Can Win French Open, 15th Grand Slam of Career

Despite Novak Djokovic's hands-down dominance on clay this year, Roger Federer still believes his old rival, Rafael Nadal, is more than capable of going all the way for his 10th French Open title and 15th career Grand Slam.

In an interview just before he began his 62nd Grand Slam appearance at Roland Garros 2015, Federer talked about Nadal's chances of beating the odds after the worst clay-court campaign in his career.

According to the Swiss, Nadal is very much in the mix for the title, as he believes his hunger for that elusive 15th Grand Slam will somehow push him through this recent adversities.

Federer, who had battled Nadal in numerous epic confrontations in the past, still thinks that his younger rival has a lot left in the tank to achieve more on the tennis court, and he seems not worried despite the prospect of the Spaniard bypassing his Grand Slam record haul.

"Rafa is very close, he can do it. The records are there to be broken, I'm very relaxed about this. I had my moment when I passed Sampras' record. You do not want someone to beat your record, but you are happy for the player who can do it. In the end no one will take away what you've done, just come and passed," Federer told reporters via Tennis World USA.

Still, Federer insisted that his primary goal is to win more Grand Slam title as possible. He confessed that the idea of retirement did come across after bagging his first Davis Cup championship with Team Switzerland, but the hunger for more glory remains unbroken.

On Sunday, Federer once again demonstrated his sublime tennis prowess by beating Alejandro Falla of Columbia 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 per ESPN Tennis Score. He will next play Spain's Marcel Granollers, who defeated Matthias Barchinger of Germany 6-4, 6-3, 7-6.
