The last time the Golden State Warriors were in the NBA Finals was 1975 and in that year they beat the Washington Bullets to bring home the title. Since then, a 40-year Finals appearance drought has plagued the organization. For this season, the Warriors, headed by regular season MVP Stephen Curry, is looking to rewrite the history books.

The 1975 Golden State Warriors, led by Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes, managed to upset the highly-favored Washington Bullets by sweeping the seven-game series. The Warriors only managed to win 48 wins during the 1975 regular season, according to ABC News.

However, this year is a completely different story for the Warriors. The team has set a league-high of 67 wins and has the record 12-3 after three rounds in the postseason. This is a great accomplishment from a team that recorded a 23-43 record during the shortened lockout season three NBA seasons ago.

The Warriors only needed 15 games in order to get to the grandest stage of basketball, according to Washington Post. The team eliminated Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans. Their opponent, the superstar studded Cleveland Cavaliers, took 16 games in order to achieve the same feat eliminating Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls and sweeping Atlanta Hawks along the way.

The achievement from the Warriors look very brilliant if one has to consider the lack of playoff experience on its rosters. Warriors only has a handful of players with playoff experience and on top of that, no one in the roster has any Finals experience at all.

This season is also the debut season of Steve Kerr as head coach.

Despite facing numerous hurdles all throughout the regular season, the Warriors did their best and was able to rank first in field-goal percentage, opponent field goal percentage, defensive rating, point differential and net rating while taking the second spot for offensive rating, according to NBA.com.
