Currently, the device has been playfully titled Google Cardboard, according to a report on PHYS. The name originates from the simple display of the device. It looks like a cardboard box where users have to simply fold the cardboard box and it adjusts like an eyewear. This set-up includes eye holes that lead into a slot designed to hold the smartphone which will facilitate the display. The smartphone screen becomes the display once it is fitted into this device.

The report also confirms that the device will be available for as little as four dollars ensuring that virtual reality headsets are within the reach of the common people. Another report on NY Times indicated that the Google also unveiled several plans of promoting Cardboard as one of its main offering. This new headset will make it possible for users to use their smartphone and YouTube to watch videos rendered in 3-D, providing an all-together different experience.

The international debut of the virtual reality headset happened last year at the I/O developer conference where the makers introduced it with a couple of lenses and magnet. The company has already shared the specifications of the headset on online portals giving hobbyists a sneak peak into what can be expected.

This will emerge as Google inexpensive medium to give users ability to view maps, objects and even movies in 3D. With this headset, Google has confirmed that it will be doubling the initiatives on Cardboard, introducing it across all smartphones as soon as possible. In a year since its debut, millions of users have downloaded the Cardboard app.
