Facebook Now Supports GIFs: Users Must Use Links

Facebook Logo

GIFs are now a thing on Facebook, but to get it working, users will have to use the direct link to the GIF instead of simply uploading an image.

Finally, it is now possible to use GIFs on Facebook. Usually, it was only possible to use one form of animation - video - but now, users of the social network can use their favorite GIFs to express themselves.

It is not yet perfect but it is believed that in the coming months, all the kings will be ironed out. The problems with this implementation are pretty obvious to many who have attempted to test if GIFs actually do work on Facebook.

As it stands, uploading a GIF to the social network will only be seen as static image, and users might be wondering why it is like this. As stated above, things are not yet perfect, so the only way to make GIFs work is to drop the link to the GIF and watch it animate in all its glory.

For now, that's the only way, and while it is fine for those who are knowledgeable about such things, it might not be for the many novices on the web.

As the years go by and as we enter an era where Internet users communicate with animation rather than text, users should look back at these days as they are beginning of what the future might look like.

Bear in mind that the functionality is still rolling out across Facebook, so it might not work for everybody just yet. Just be patient, everything should be up and running for all parties in the coming days or weeks.

We have tested it and so far, we can say for certain that it works. It is indeed true, however, that users will have use links instead of just uploading a GIF to their NewsFeed.

With Facebook now supporting GIFs after many years in the dark, users can now finally get to see Michael Jackson eating all that popcorn instead of just a still image of his smiling face.
