This year's NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers promises an action-packed, drama-laden matchup between two of the most popular basketball players in the world today. So far after Game 1, it has been true to its promise. LeBron James was LeBron James and Steph Curry was Steph Curry. At least prior to the overtime period.

The game was as close as any fan would have wanted. Like two boxers standing still and trading punches in the middle of the ring, the Warriors and Cavs had thirteen lead changes and 11 deadlocks, as per the NBA's official website, and is actually a more competitive show than what Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather gave to the fans last May. It ended up tied after regulation, so an extra five-minute period is needed to know who will draw first blood.

In the extra period, the Warriors showed everyone why they are the best team in the planet right now. LeBron has the experience, but Golden State has statistics and history behind them. Tonight, history and probability prevailed over experience.

Stats and history indicate that the Warriors team that is playing in the Finals right now is more likely to win the championship. Golden State's 67-15 regular season record is the sixth best record in NBA history. Of the previous nine teams that finished with an identical record, seven have gone on to win the NBA title. Going back to the game, the Warriors gripped LeBron and company by the neck in overtime, going for a 10-0 clincher in the first 4 minutes and 50 seconds of play. That's about 99.9% of OT. James managed to flick a layup shot with 9.5 seconds left, and that's about it for the Cavs.

Not to take anything away from LeBron, he did carry the Cavs tonight. He was poised throughout the whole game, showing that he'd been here five times before, and scored a Finals career-high of 44 points. But it was not enough to extinguish the rabid Warriors' team attack.

The bad news for Cleveland, however, was not that they became paralyzed in OT, but that Kyrie Irving seemed to have aggravated his knee again. Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey said that it would be a game-changer in the whole series.

So far, the 2015 Finals had left the fans spellbound and glued on their seats. Let's hope it goes on for at least four games? Or possibly six or seven? Nobody knows.

Game 2 will still be at the Oracle Arena on Sunday night, 8 p.m. E.T.
