112 Cats removed From Las Vegas residence

Around 112 cats were removed by animal control workers from a house in North Las Vegas after receiving complaints from neighbors that a woman was keeping lots of cats.

Reports said building inspectors who arrived at the residence last week found dozens of cats and a dog and were assaulted by a foul smell that came from cat feces and urine that covered the entire house.

The three animal workers who spent 8 hours clearing the house with 112 cats were reportedly taken to the hospital after faintting due to heat exhaustion.

The house is owned by a 47 year old woman whose name has yet to be released. She told police that she didn't intend to keep as many cats but since she didn't have the time to have them neutered, things spiralled out of control,

The animal workers said the house was in "horrible conditions" with no airconditioning and was covered with cat feces and urine.

Police said the cats have been taken to an animal shelter. Reports said plans on what to do with  the cats next are still unclear.

Police had  issued a citation to the woman for animal cruelty.

The woman told police that she did the best she could and that she was planning to have the cats adopted and keep some for herself.

The house had been deemed unfit for occupancy.

Under Las Vegas  laws, only three dogs, three cats, and three ferrets under the age of 3 months are allowed to stay at a residence.
