Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao II may have hit a sort of a standstill in terms of ongoing stories after one month of torrid speculations, but no one could argue the fact that boxing fans from around the world are still eagerly anticipating what would be the latest news between these two all-time greats.

As for Mayweather, the pay-per-view king continues to insist that his last fight will be on September and after that retirement is inevitable. While the undefeated American is known for having the propensity to change his mind at any given time, his current claim somehow looks fixed as of the moment.

Reports have indicated that the current world number one pound-for-pound fighter is setting his sights on a last bout with Amir Khan or a second fight with Canelo Alvarez. A rematch with Puerto Rican brawler Miguel Cotto is also said to be a possibility. There are no mentions of a consecutive Pacquiao tiff in September as the Filipino icon is still recuperating from a surgery on his right shoulder.

ESPN recently reported that Khan claimed that a fight with Mayweather will be confirmed in two weeks. This had been the loudest rumor to date as Floyd wants a lighter final fight to enable him to exit boxing on a high note. A rematch with either Cotto or Canelo, which themselves are also speculated to face each other this winter, would be a bigger risk for his 48-0 record than going up against Khan.

Meanwhile, Boxing News 24's Chris Williams indicated that former Pacquiao and current Mayweather strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza said that the latter should not step into the ring with the former unless he changed his coach, crew, and all the people around him.

Obviously, this comment from Ariza only aims to confuse PacMan's camp as it would be impossible at this stage of his career to fire Freddie Roach and replace Bob Arum as his promoter.

As for Pacquiao, Fight Saga's Lee Cleveland suggests that his next fight should be a tune-up first before going for a rematch with Mayweather. Roach is dismissing this possibility, but Cleveland believes that Manny is risking to re-injure his shoulder or succumbing to another embarrassing mega fight loss if he insists on going back in the ring right away with Mayweather.

The combination of age, months of layoff, and a career-altering injury may be too much for Pacquiao to prove anything against Mayweather that time. Another point in question would be Floyd's willingness to step out of retirement and face PacMan again.

Perhaps if the fans really want it and cash talks are okay, then Money would have a hard time to resist.
