Australia's Jetstar Apologizes for ‘Flush Drugs’ Flight Crew Warning

Australian domestic airlines Jetstar issued an apology after a flight crew on a Sydney-bound trip advised passengers to flush their drugs down the toilet before the plane lands.

According to report, the crew had announced that there will be inspectors and sniffer dogs waiting in the airport and that the passengers should dispose of 'anything [they] shouldn't have.'

The crew, attempting to be clever, has made a huge blunder instead saying: "We have been told there are sniffer dogs and quarantine officers waiting in the domestic terminal. If you need to dispose of anything you shouldn't have we suggest you flush it now."

Immediately after the announcement, many passengers from Gold Coast city who attended the Splendour in the Grass music festival during the weekend had reportedly rushed to the lavatory, presumably to dispose of drugs.

Though similar announcements are made routinely, the Jetstar had issued a statement apologizing for the misunderstanding and the unprofessionalism of the flight crew citing that his words were 'poorly chosen.'

They assured that the crew -who was 'casually employed'- was being dealt with accordingly.

According to Jetstar spokesman Stephen Moynihan, they have received 'mixed' reactions from the public about the incident.

The passenger who claimed to have seen a number of the 210 passengers rush to the lavatory with "things clenched in their hands" criticized the warning and said that if people have "something illegal" the airlines should "let them get caught."

On the other hand, Facebook comments have been mainly positive.

In a post, Rohit Dwivedi called the flight crew a Good Samaritan and said he deserved to be promoted.

Jebediah Cole concurred and said that the crew did the right thing in warning their passengers to save them from being humiliated, jailed or fined.

Meanwhile, Australian authorities have refused to comment on the issue on Wednesday.
