Some movies take time to write and produce but eventually show output that is worth the wait. "Sandman" is taking a little longer than usual, and actor turned producer Joseph Gordon Levitt dishes out on the details of the long-standing project.

"The Walk" star Joseph Gordon Levitt was recently interviewed in Spike TV's "Guys Choice Awards," where he updated everyone about the "Sandman" movie. Comic Book reported that the actor quipped that it will be a spectacular action flick, minus the clichés of blowing things up or repetitive punching, since, as he said, Morpheus does not punch.

He also reveals that the screenplay has been written one portion at a time, with no defined beginning, middle, and end. MTV reports that "Sandman" has been written well over the course of six or even seven years, one little 20-page part at a time.

"Sandman" is the epic masterpiece created by master storyteller Neil Gaiman that follows the story of Morpheus, the Dream King, who gets kidnapped from the dream realm, which is the start of every story that happens to him. The story is well-celebrated for its ability to seamlessly mix classical mythology as well as history into the story.

Die-hard fans of the saga will revel in the fact that despite the long-standing production time, Gordon Levitt is working closely with director David Goyer, screenwriter Jack Thorne and Gaiman himself. The A.V. Club recently mentioned that in a Reddit AMA, the four have been heavily in talks with each other, and that the constant and step-by-step involvement of Gaiman in the production aids in the continuing development of the project. Suffice to say, knowing the creator himself is involved in the project is one of the biggest reasons as to why the project is yet to be cancelled.

Overall, even if "Sandman" is yet to be announced by Warner Bros. to be included in their slated movies in the next few years, a lot of people are still waiting for its release. That alone is enough to keep Gaiman rooting for the project, and if fans just keep their fingers crossed, maybe Morpheus will just suddenly pop out in one of the trailers.
