Sabine Lisicki may have lost her match in the first round of the Bank of the West Classic but she will go down in the history for hitting the fastest serve Tuesday.

Lisicki, 24, unleashed a killer serve with a recorded speed of 210.8 kph (131 mph) in the first set, the fastest serve ever recorded by a woman in a World Tennis Association (WTA) event.

Her opponent, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, barely hit the ball with her racket to return the service, but she did win the match 7(7)-6(2) 6-1.

The Williams sisters are now in second and third place, with Venus' most powerful service recorded at 207.6 kph (129 mph) in the 2007 U.S. Open. Serena, on the other hand, recorded a 207 kph (128.6 mph) serve in last year's Australian Open.

"Well ... at least I broke the world record for fastest serve," Lisicki tweeted after her match.

Defending champion Dominika Cibulkova was also eliminated in the first round by Gabrine Muguruza in three sets 2-6 6-4 2-6.

Venus Williams, a wild card entry this tournament, won her first round match against Paula Kania of Poland 6-3 6-2. Her sister, world number 1 Serena Williams, is scheduled to play on the second round Wednesday against Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova who beat Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan, 6-1, 6-3 Monday.

Serena is coming back from a "viral illness" which she suffered while playing a doubles match with her sister at Wimbledon in July 1 which caused them to concede their match.

On the men's side, the fastest service ever recorded was achieved by Australian Samuel Groth in the 2012 Busan Open Challenger Tennis in South Korea. His fastest serve, a whopping 263.4 kph (163.7 mph), is as fast as a Category 5 hurricane.
