Convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat, who were prisoners in the maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York, have escaped over the weekend. The manhunt for the two New York escaped murderers began five days ago, and until now there remains no word on where the two have gone.

More harrowing than the news of the New York escaped murderers is the news that Richard Matt, one of the escapees, is "psychotic" and could exact revenge.

In an interview with NBC News, Matt's former accomplice, a convicted murderer, said he now fears for his safety as there's a possibility Matt will be seeking revenge while on the run.

"There's no telling what kind of revenge he might want to exact on ... people that I love, people that are close to me," the former accomplice, requesting anonymity, told the news station. "This is a very psychotic individual."

Since the shocking news spread about the New York escaped murderers, authorities have asked the inmates' friends and family.

Nicholas Harris, Matt's son, told NBC station WGRZ said he became aware of the news of the New York escaped murderers only when police went to his home.

"Our jaws drop when we're watching reports," Harris said.

He said that he and his mother are waiting for news about his father just like everyone else.

"It's shocking," he added. "With the technology we have, it's pretty bizarre they got out."

While law enforcement officials are still on the manhunt for the New York escaped murderers, The Business Insider noticed that the pair left a note on their escape route similar to an episode in the animated sitcom "Family Guy."

In the episode, Peter Griffin sketches a photo of an Asian American assaulter after being described by a victim who cannot provide any information aside from the ethnicity of the perpetrator.

The on-going manhunt for the New York escaped murderers already involves more than 400 police officers. The state is also giving a $100,000 bounty for the two, according to CNN.

So far, trail on the New York escaped murderers has reportedly been coldOn Wednesday, authorities said they believe the two could have headed to Vermont.

The search had expanded to Vermont since the inmates reportedly believed "New York was going to be hot and Vermont ... cooler in terms of law enforcement," Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said in a news conference outside the prison.
