The biggest names in Chinese and Hollywood film industry graced the red carpet opening of the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival. Leading the A-list celebrities were international martial arts superstar Jackie Chan and the enchantingly gorgeous "X-Men: Days of the Future Past" actress Fan Bingbing. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was also in attendance alongside "Ip Man 3" lead actor Donnie Yen. In a photo published by the Los Angeles Times, both actors were seen raising their fists at the cameras and clearly enjoying the event.

In the gallery published by China Daily, the stellar lineup also included Hong Kong actor Li Ming in a basic but dapper striped suit and Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin in a powder-blue sequined halter dress. Fan posed on the red carpet flanked by Li and Taiwanese actor Wu Chun. Already recognized internationally for her fashion sense, Fan looked exceptionally regal in her wine red gown with black ruffles at the helm. Meanwhile, Chinese actress Yang Zhishan donned an intricately detailed off-white ball gown. Taiwanese actress Joe Chen looked elegant in her lilac column dress adorned with crystals, while Hong Kong-based fashion model Xiong Dailin wore a boat neck dress with simple silhouette yet sophisticated details.

Also spotted by the cameras were Taiwanese actors Peter Ho and Eddie Peng. Not to be outdone in making an attention-grabbing entrance were actors Liu Ye and Wang Qianyuan of the true crime film "Saving Mr. Wu." Dashing in bow ties and suits, Liu and Wang walked the red carpet handcuffed to each other. The duo raised their cuffed hands for all the cameras to see. Celebrated Chinese drama actress Qin Yi also graced the festival opening with her presence.

Korean heartthrob Song Seung-heon of "Endless Love" fame managed to attend the film festival opening ceremony despite the recent cases of MERS in South Korea. The Los Angeles Times reported that festival organizers sent South Korean participants an e-mail advising them to stay at home instead. Those who arrived were asked to fill out a health history form at the registration desk.

This year's festival also saw more local filmmakers promoting their movies. The screening program includes Fan's "Lady of the Dynasty" and "The Monkey King 2" starring Gong Li and Aaron Kwok. The feature film "I Am Somebody" by Hong Kong director Derek Yee is set to close the festival on June 21. In the competition are highly praised entries by international filmmakers Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Sergey Milkhalkov among others. The Shanghai fest also gives tribute to Jackie Chan's film legacy of highlighting the Chinese culture in action movies with the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week.
