Six Chinese fugitives, who are wanted for economic crimes by the government, have been repatriated back to China by the Indonesian authorities, the Ministry of Public Security announced on Sunday.

According to Xinhua, Interpol had issued Red Notice for at least three of the suspects. The authorities have since recovered assets worth nearly $5 million (30 million yuan) from the six men. Reports indicate that one of them named Chen is accused of defrauding the State of about $1.6 million (10 million yuan).

While the six men were being deported from Indonesia on Saturday, Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti, the head of Jakarta Police's General Crimes Directorate, revealed that - on the request of Chinese authorities - the suspects were arrested between May and June, Jarakta Post reported.

"They are all Interpol fugitives for numerous crimes. They escaped and have been in Indonesia for a long time. One of them even has an Indonesian ID card," Murti said. He revealed that the China's police have informed Indonesian authorities that several Chinese fugitives (including the six men who were deported recently) escaped to Indonesia.

Since the Fox Hunt 2015 initiative began in April, up to 256 suspects have been arrested and deported back to China from different countries around the world. The addition of these six suspects makes the total now 262 suspects. However, this is still meager in comparison to the number of suspects arrested between July and December last year - 680.

Chinese authorities have vowed to continue to track and bring back former officials who have eloped to different parts of the world after defrauding the government. This is the first time that Indonesian authorities are collaborating with China on the Fox Hunt initiative. The Ministry of Public Security has revealed that it will try to reach an agreement with more countries to apprehend Chinese fugitives who are living abroad - particularly western nations. China does not have an extradition treaty with many western countries and experts say western governments are wary of repatriating Chinese fugitives out of human rights concerns.

Recently, US authorities apprehended the former deputy mayor of Wenzhou, Yang Xiuzhu, who is one of the top people on China's wanted list. However, US authorities have not deported her back to China - despite persistent calls from China for this to be done. Meanwhile, Yang, who has applied for asylum in the US, has revealed that she fears she wouldn't get a fair trial in her home country, NDTV reported.
