The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly trying to trade their 27th overall pick, including some assets, for the opportunity to move up in the upcoming draft or for a reliable veteran.

The Lakers management is also said to be intending to free more cap space in preparation for a blockbuster free agent signing this July, as per SB Nation. Recent speculations came out that Los Angeles will offer maximum contracts to either Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge or Jimmy Butler when free agency period starts.

There were even rumors of an impending Kobe Bryant-Dwayne Wade partnership as the Heat superstar is allegedly considering playing for purple-and-gold next season because of current contract disputes in Miami.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is undecided whether to use their 27th and 34th picks to draft players. However, opinions abound that they are either trading them to move up or acquire an experienced role player, particularly the 27th.

Another recent supposition said that they can be trading it for multiple second-rounders or a future first-rounder. To this point, there were still no final reports as the 2015 NBA Draft approaches.

Bleacher Report indicated that the Lakers also has some interest in drafting wing players that might not be available by the 27th pick. Arizona's Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Virginia's Justin Anderson are said to be promising perimeter defenders, something that the team had missed since the departure of Trevor Ariza in 2009.

Hollis-Jefferson is a 6-foot-7 forward with an improbable 7-foot-2 wingspan in the likes of a Scottie Pippen. Meanwhile, Anderson is particularly excited in playing with Bryant after the five-time champion walked into the Lakers' practice facility to check pre-draft workouts.

When it comes to trading for a reliable veteran, the names of New Orleans Pelicans' Tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson are being mentioned. Either of these two players could be useful for the Lakers.

Another option for Los Angeles to trade for is Denver Nuggets' Wilson Chandler. Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler recently reported that the Nuggets will undergo a major roster overhaul and Chandler is a potential trade chip. The 27th pick and Nick Young is rumored to be welcomed by Denver.

With all these, Kupchak and his crew are clearly preparing the way for the franchise to return to title contention prominence. The owners want it, Bryant covets it, and the fans miss it, so they have no other choice.
