Kēngqiāng Méiguī, who is ranked no. 16 in the world, defeated Cameroon, 1-0, during the Round-of-16 stage to advance in the quarters. Forward Wang Shanshan continues to be the star of Hao Wei's squad as she provided the lone goal of the contest during the first half of the match. China never relinquished the lead up to the final whistle.

The Chinese also overcame the absence of their head coach during the game. Hao was banned for one game after he allegedly interfered during an inbound play in their last group qualification game against New Zealand where they settled for a 2-2 draw.

Hao watched from the stands as his girls valiantly battled the severe weather conditions at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. Assistant coach Chang Wei-Wei praised the Steel Roses after their hard-earned win.

"They fought like warriors for over 90 minutes. I want to thank them for their hard work," Chang said, as per Yahoo Sports.

Meanwhile, the United States moved on to the final eight by beating bitter rival Colombia, 2-0, in their Round-of-16 match at the aforementioned stadium in Edmonton.

Team USA and Las Cafeteras had a heated "war of words" prior to the match, which prompted Colombian forward Lady Andrade to have harsh comments during a pre-game interview. Still, the American prevailed to set up an encounter with the Chinese for the right to enter the semifinals where either France or world no. 1 Germany awaits.

In the match, the Yanks should expect a highly-disciplined China team that capitalizes on every mistake their opponent makes. This will surely not be an easy task for Jill Ellis' girls as the Chinese ladies are assessed to be stronger than the Colombians by ESPN.

Still, the world no.2 may prove too much for the Steel Roses as the Americans aim to duplicate their 2011 campaign by advancing once again to the final.
