It has officially gone viral. The new social media fad, the "collarbone challenge" has made its way out of China and into the Instagram accounts of other countries.

The fad came along just as the equally popular "belly button challenge" started dwindling from social media, according to BT.

The "collarbone challenge," which began on Chinese social networking site Weibo, requires one to balance coins in the dip above their collarbones. Fad followers believe that the more coins one is able to balance, the "sexier and skinnier" he or she is, reported ABC news.

Chinese site Sina News also reported that for some, being able to take on the #collarbonechallenge signifies that one is "skinny and sexy."

Some Chinese have taken up the challenge already, including Chinese actress Lv Jiarong. Her Weibo photo showing her collarbone with more than 80 coins is already one of the most popular photos of the challenge, according to InStyle.

Since the fad began on June 16, the "collarbone challenge" has already gotten more than 34 million hits on Weibo. It is also starting to gain traction on Instagram with 341 images to date.

Thankfully, not all people are taking the "collarbone challenge" too seriously.

While many are saying that the "challenge" puts body shaming and unrealistic beauty standards for women into the spotlight once again, the craze has taken a hilarious turn, and people are now putting random things on their collarbones.

Meanwhile, health professionals are insisting that the "collarbone challenge," as well as other challenges supposedly determining one's sex appeal, are only promoting a negative body image especially with social media influence, reported the Times of India.

Apart from the "collarbone challenge," other bizarre beauty and fitness trends to have hit the Internet include the following:

Belly Button Challenge: A challenge to determine one's level of fitness. Participants must be able to wrap one arm behind their back and around their side to reach over their belly button. If unsuccessful, one is deemed unfit and would reportedly need to lose weight.

Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge: A challenge where women must artificially plump their lips to look like 17-year-old American celebrity Kylie Jenner. Some girls took it to the next level and hurt themselves in the process as they used shot glasses or bottles to blow up their pouts even more.

Thigh Gap Challenge: A challenge sparked by skinny models, the challenge requires women's thighs to not touch when standing with their feet together.
