Saturday night's Team USA scrimmage came to an abrupt end after Indiana Pacers small forward Paul George sustained what looked to be a serious right leg injury in the fourth quarter.

George, who was defending James Harden in the scrimmage, leaped to contest the basket when his leg smashed into the backboard stanchion. The injury appeared to be grave as both fans and players looked away from the scene.

Trainers immediately raced down the court and after 10 minutes of stoppage, George was brought out of the arena on a stretcher.

Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski later told the crowd at University of Las Vegas' Thomas and Mack Center that the scrimmage would be cut short because of the incident.

The game was at the 9:33 mark of the fourth quarter with Harden's white team leading George's Blue, 81-71.

George had been a virtual shoo-in in the national team's 12-man roster for the FIBA World Championships in Spain. The initial plan was to whittle the 20-man pool down to 14 or 15, but with George's injury, plans on the final roster are again up on the air.

"Everything's on hold right and it should be," Krzyzewski said. "It would be so inappropriate for us to talk about anything else when there's a serious injury like this."

Should George's injury force him to skip the Worlds, he would be the third player to withdraw from the team after Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love and Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin.

Love cited the uncertain situation in the rumored trade involving him and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Andrew Wiggins, while Griffin needed time for a back fracture to heal.
