Jacky Cheung Sky Wu Rift: What Took Place at the Golden Melody Awards?

Jacky Cheung Sky Wu Rift - Hong Kong's Jacky Cheung and 26th Golden Melody Awards convener Sky Wu reportedly had a misunderstanding concerning the awards ceremony which took place today, June 27.

Prior to the Golden Melody Awards which took place at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan, Sky Wu said Jacky had expressed irritation for being one of the last few to be nominated. However, Jacky cleared up Wu's statement, saying it had been a "misunderstanding."

In fact, Jacky Cheung said it was a pleasure for him that he was nominated for the awards. He is currently filming a new movie, and he added that he would attend the ceremony if he could find time from his busy schedule from filming.

Jacky Cheung also mentioned the awards when he made a statement after he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts recently, according to chinaentertainmentnews.com.

While accepting the award, Jacky Cheung admitted his surprise and said the reason for his disbelief was that he had never considered himself to be much of a good student. Despite this, he added that he should already have graduated from his career in music and the movie-making industry, in reference to the Golden Melody Award nominations.

The nominees for the 26th Golden Melody Awards were released by the jury on May 18, reported Yibada.

To judge the nominees and winners, the jury chose from 449 albums and 12,890 works that have been submitted. Out of the thousands of works submitted, the jury only chose 131 works for the competition, which would battle in the awards' 26 categories.

For the category of Best Mandarin Male Singer, Jacky Cheung competed with Eason Chang, Khalil Fong, Yang Pei-an and William Wei.

Albums that pitted against each other for the Best Mandarin Album were Jacky Cheung's "Wake Up Dreaming," Tsai's "Play," Karen Mok's "Departures," "Not Bad" by Jay Chou, Lala Hsu's "Missing," and "Rice and Shine" by Eason Chan.

Jacky Cheung was also nominated for the categories of Song of the Year, Best Male and Best Mandarin Album, according to The AU Review.
