It appears Sean Penn is moving on from his relationship with Charlize Theron. The 54-year-old "Gangster Squad" actor has recently been spotted with a potential future girlfriend - 35-year-old Minka Kelly.

A photo of the two were taken last Tuesday at Thomas Keller's The French Laundry, an elite restaurant in Napa Valley, California. It was Minka Kelly's 35th birthday, and she celebrated it with Sean along with three other people.

According to an insider, Penn and a friend flew to Napa on the night of June 23 to meet Kelly and her friend. The two met at a Haiti charity event the actor threw for his relief organization J/P HRO. The rendezvous between Sean Penn and Minka Kelly wasn't at all private. They were reportedly heard by people at other tables.

"That was their first date, but it was a group setting," said the Us insider. "It was more of a 'let's see how this goes.'"

The source added that the dinner went well. People at their table and others in the restaurant even sang Kelly a "Happy Birthday."

"Minka and Sean got along great and had a great time, but it's unclear where it's going," added the insider.

Of course, Sean Penn picked up the extremely pricey tab. Penn's other famous exes include Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Madonna, and Robin Wright.

As for Kelly, she has been linked with quite a few famous names herself, including "Captain America" actor Chris Evans, former Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter, and John Mayer, to name a few, reported Us Magazine.

While Minka has made no mention of Sean, she Instagrammed after the dinner, "Birthday festivities off to a pretty magical start," according to TMZ.

Penn's date with the "Almost Human" actress comes two weeks after him and Theron, 39, called off their engagement following a relationship that lasted almost a year and a half.

It remains uncertain as to why and how Penn and Theron broke it off. Apart from being engaged, Penn was also about to adopt Charlize's son. However, things started going wrong after the pair came back from the Cannes Film Festival, according to an Inquisitr report.

"Charlize wasn't responding to his calls and texts," according to an Us Weekly source. "She just cut it off."
