On Twitter, Lin revealed the title of the third film, "Star Trek Beyond." Along with the tweet was a photo of the Starfleet badge on the iconic blue uniform.

"Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP," stated the tweet. Fans of the franchise know that LLAP stands for "Live Long and Prosper," which is a Vulcan salute. Prior to directing the third installment, J.J. Abrams was initially the director of the "Star Trek" franchise. He had directed the 2009 and 2013 film before handing over his director's chair to Lin.

While Abrams might have moved on to direct the upcoming "Star Wars" film, he remains a producer for the third installment of "Star Trek." With regards to the cast of the sci-fi films, Chris Pine reprises his role as Captain James T. Kirk while Zachary Quinto reprises his role as Spock. The film is set to hit theaters by July 8, 2016. Filming had already begun in Vancouver last Thursday.

Lin's other notable films include "Fast and the Furious." In an interview with Just Jared, the Chinese director opened up about his decision to leave the film franchise.

"Before I did my first one with Tokyo Drift, I was coming off my maxing my credit card movie and then it was eight fantastic years of Fast where we became a family and made four movies that felt very different," expressed Lin, adding, "I will always cherish that, but after the last one I got to the point there wasn't enough reason to stay. I couldn't justify my growth as a filmmaker. I needed more, creatively, and am fortunate that I was able to move on to True Detective, with these scripts by Nic Pizzolato that read like novels, Star Trek, and this Chinese film Hollywood Adventures."

Regarding "Hollywood Adventures," the Lin-directed film which stars Huang Xiaoming and Zhao Wei is set to hit Chinese theaters soon. Like a number of Lin films, this promises a whole lot of action with a mix of humor.
