McDonald's marks the 25th anniversary of its first venture in China by expanding its "Create Your Taste" service to more branches across the mainland. From the first outlet at Xizang Zhong Lu (next to Marriott City Center) in Shanghai, the "bespoke" burgers will be available in Jing'an district and Guangzhou province this year and in Beijing and Shenzhen in 2016, according to Shanghaiist.

"Create Your Taste" is a global campaign launched in California in 2014. Early in June, the concept was brought to China, making the country the sixth region to offer more burger options to diners, City Weekend reported.

The "gourmet" menu allows customers to expand their basic a la carte burger (RMB 42) and set burger (RMB 49) with a feast of flavors in six easy steps. Customers can stack up to a minimum of five "quarter pounder" burger patties per order. The special menu also includes European-style role and butter bap buns, bacon, three kinds of cheese (yellow, white, and mozzarella), lettuce, tomato, fried onions, fried mushrooms, and nacho strips. To complete any combination, diners can choose from eight special sauces, including mustard, barbecue, guacamole, and classic Big Mac.

User-friendly kiosks can be found in branches that offer the custom service. The touchscreen machines require UnionPay card before a number is given to the customer. A McDonald's staff then brings the burger to the diner's table. Combo meals are served on a mock wooden board, with the fries cradles in a tiny fryer, Timeout Shanghai cited.

The fast-food chain first came to China on October 8, 1990, and its first branch is located in Shenzhen. According to Shanghaiist, the food setup was a novel concept back then, and many people from different parts of the country trooped to the store in crowds. With so much diners wanting to grab a bite of the American food franchise, long queues reached several floors and surrounded the building.

Aside from California and China, countries and regions that now offer McDonald's dream burger maker include Singapore, New Zealand and Australia, and the states of Illinois, Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Missouri.
