Catalan newspaper Sport claims that the Gunners and the Merseyside club are showing a strong interest for FC Barcelona winger Pedro and both the clubs have made official contacts with the player's representative.

Both aiming to improve their roster make-up this summer, Arsenal and Liverpool have shown willingness to negotiate a possible transfer deal for the 27-year-old Spanish winger. As for Pedro, Sport mentioned that he is more intrigued with Liverpool FC's offer as he also showed his interest in moving to the Premier League as well.

With a possibility of Raheem Sterling leaving this summer for Manchester City, the Merseyside club is currently looking for a potential replacement and they believed Pedro can certainly fill in that gaping hole on their attacking unit.

Liverpool FC has already made several transactions throughout transfer window in an attempt to improve the quality of their roster and contend for both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League next season.

Pedro Rodriguez was a product of the Catalan club, having progressed through the junior ranks until he reached the first team in 2008. During his stay at Camp Nou, he won six La Liga Championships, three Copa Del Rey and three UEFA Champions League Titles.

He, Alexis Sanchez and Messi formed one of the best attacking troikas in European football few years ago. However, the arrival of Neymar jr. and Luis Suarez placed a hard cap on his playing time and eventually made him dispensable.

Pedro Rodriguez recently signed an extension at FC Barcelona with a €150 million buy-out clause. The new deal allowed Barcelona to lock in Pedro through 2019, but a move is still possible according to the Independent.

"The player has a mammoth £110m buy-out clause, as agreed in the Barca contract which expires in 2019, but that price is just there to strengthen the club's position over his fee when he is sold. Reports suggest that he could be available for £15m," via the Independent.

With FC Barcelona expected to stay under the transfer ban until January 2016, the Catalan club decided they didn't want to lose Perdro at a knockdown price, making their move to sign him to a new contract that allows the club to have a substantial fee if he decided to leave anytime soon.
