Reports said that an impending sign-and-trade deal is being cooked by the Lakers and the Mavs to get Lin in Texas this summer.

Rick Carlisle's lineup is almost complete with the acquisition of center DeAndre Jordan and shooting guard Wesley Matthews this offseason. Along with power forward Dirk Nowitzki and small forward Chandler Parsons, they are looking to have a formidable starting unit come October.

After their split with champion playmaker Rajon Rondo and resident scorer Monta Ellis, the only position lacking is the no. 1 spot that would bring them back to the level of contenders in the tough Western Conference.

Mark Cuban thinks that Lin could be that last piece who would boost Dallas' return to the NBA Finals.

ESPN indicated that the 26-year-old former Harvard standout is strongly considering the opportunity to revitalize his career at Dallas despite the higher earning potential elsewhere.

Lin could be a perfect fit to Carlisle's system as he thrives in pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop plays which he and Jordan could maximize.

Reports have also emerged that former Maverick J.J. Barea could be back to join the bench next season. With Devin Harris and Barea, Lin has reliable backups that would allow him to be fresher in the postseason. It would really be a dream situation for the former "Linsanity" star's career even with the lower pay.

Another reason why Lin is said to be keen on joining the Mavs is the presence of old buddy Parsons, who had been close to each other during their stint with the Rockets. The dynamic between the two, especially in transition, was exceptional and they can bring that to the table in Dallas.

According to Bleacher Report, several other teams are also interested in Lin's help such as the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs as both needed depth in the point guard spot, although he is sure to be a bench player again with either team.
