The Serena Williams versus Maria Sharapova Wimbledon semifinal match on Thursday is unquestionably "the" game to watch. When you have a rivalry akin to a Graf-Seles or an Evert-Navratilova, expect a match caliber that could surpass that of the final's. And it's no exaggeration when you're talking about the two best players on the biggest stage of the most coveted of grand slams. Set aside the fury of the grunts and you'll get relentless, unyielding, and aggressive tennis, bar none.

The biggest question now is, who will win?

Williams has the edge with 17 wins against Maria who only managed to beat the American twice - this includes the 2004 Wimbledon Final. The last time they played against each other at the All England Club was in the 4th round of the 2010 Championships which Serena took in straight sets. Considering the stats, Serena could seal another straight set victory but the Russian could never be underestimated.

USA Today published a prediction of Maria winning this encounter. And why not? She knows that she has to win this and not succumb to another loss just because her opponent is the better player. Sharapova also knows how to win on big stages and if she commits less unforced errors, she might just rattle Serena's game which she knows fairly well.

The Dailymail, on the other hand, is expecting a Serena win and the analyis goes beyond the stats. The world no. 1 is known to have a serve advantage. So far in the tournament, Sharapova has already committed 38 double faults, a big difference from Serena's 11. And when Williams heads to the latter rounds of a grand slam, her confidence soars and she starts hitting better and stronger.

"I love playing Maria," Williams said as reported by CNN. "I think she brings out the best in me. I think I bring out the best in her. I thought we had a wonderful final in Australia. It was very entertaining. She played really well."

The match could be a reprise of the Wimbledon 2004 final or it could go again to Serena who continues her grand slam history bid. Nonetheless, the only undeniable matter is the showcase of grit from both champions who know that it will never be easy and that the winner will eventually take home the Championships.
