Sources familiar with the Microsoft job cuts 2015 figures said that in addition to the 18,000 layoffs announced last year, the company has confirmed to announce more job cuts. The desperate move is expected to help the company to cut costs.

World's largest software company Microsoft is likely to layoff more employees as it is confirmed in Telegraph. The new round of layoffs are expected to be announced on Wednesday. This cutoff will be in addition to the 18,000 announced last year. Microsoft boss Satya Nadella had announced these cuts, soon after joining the company.

According to sources, these job cuts are expected to affect those working in the hardware sector as well as those who are employed with the smartphone business. The cut offs for the smartphone segment was expected after Microsoft took over Lumia, Nokia's Windows powered smartphone.

In July 2014, when Nadella announced the layoff for 18,000 employees, he initiated what is being termed as the largest of its kind activity in the history of technology companies. Even for Microsoft, the layoff meant that they lost 14 percent of their workforce. This time too, employees across categories will be asked to leave. It can be noted that just last month, Stephen Elop, the former top boss at phone-maker Nokia, along with three other high-level executives were asked to leave the company.

However, there is still no clarity on the names of the people who have been asked to leave. Another report on Live Mint points out that Microsoft's decision to layoff employees came shortly after the software company announced its exit from the web advertising business. Meanwhile Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella said that the cutoffs were a planned effort to narrow the company's focus on personal computing and cloud platforms and therefore increase business productivity.

Microsoft also confirmed that it is selling a part of its mapping unit to Uber, the multimillion dollar cab company, while Uber is expected to offer jobs to 100 Microsoft employees.

Another technology company AOL will be hiring 1,200 employees once it takes over the web advertising business, quite a striking contrast to what Microsoft is doing.
