New Math Equation can Determine Happiness

Happiness

There's a new app that can apparently predict a person's happiness.

Using a new mathematical equation, researchers found that a person's happiness is determined by whether things are going better with his life.

The equation that can be used to predict a person's happiness is part of a smartphone app researchers developed called "The Great Brain Experiment."

Researchers found that a certain area of the brain called the striatum can be used to predict changes in a person's happiness.

The striatum is connected by dopamine neurons that probably play a great role in determining happiness.

Robb Rutledge from the University College London said expectations play a huge role in determining a person's happiness.

He said in real world situations, the rewards of a person's life decisions are often not realized for a long time.

Rutledge explained that expectations of these decisions, whether good or bad, have a big effect on a person's state of happiness.

He said there is truth to the saying that one will be happier if one lowers his expectations.

He explained this is because lower expectations make it more likely that an outcome will exceed those expectations and have a positive impact on happiness.

Researchers used a new equation that can accurately predict the exact state of a person's happiness based on the person's recent life events.

They want to examine how and why happiness varies each moment in a person's life.

Researchers hope that by quantifying subject states mathematically, they can help doctors understand mood disorders better.

This research allows doctors to see how self-reported feelings fluctuate in response to events like small wins and losses.

Researchers believe that better understanding how a normal person's feelings work, and the difference between these feelings and those of a person suffering mood disorders will lead to more effective treatments.
