Maria Sharapova entered the grass court season ranked no. 4 in the world but the Russian is back on a familiar spot as world no. 2 after her stellar performance at Wimbledon. The 28-year-old is in her 159th week of being second in the world and 180th week overall as a Top 2-21 player.

"I think consistency is one of the toughest things," Sharapova said as quoted by the WTA website. "You can have a good year, you can have some good tournaments where you find yourself in the Top 10 or in the Top 5 occasionally. I think your expectations of your level obviously rise dramatically because you see yourself at a bigger stage, you see some results from yourself, and you expect yourself to be there many more times."

Current rankings show that Sharapova is almost 7,000 points behind world no. 1 Serena Williams whom she lost to in the semifinals at Wimbledon. The American went on to win the Championships beating Garbiñe Muguruza in a convincing fashion to claim her 21st grand slam title.

Sharapova commented on Williams saying that "she's certainly the player to beat." She added, "With all the confidence in the world right now, her results speak for themselves."

Next to Sharapova at no. 3 is Simona Halep followed by Caroline Wozniacki and former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova who fell off the rankings after losing in the 3rd round.

The Road to Singapore Leaderboard still sees Williams on the top spot with Sharapova coming in second and Halep as third. But it's Carla Suárez Navarro who gets on the fourth followed by Muguruza who secures the fifth spot thanks to her Wimbledon Final run.

Up next for the women in preparation for the US Open are the hardcourt tournaments of North America starting with the Bank of the West Classic where Williams will come back as defending champion.

Recently, the world no. 1 graced the Wimbledon Champions' dinner alongside Gentleman's Singles Winner Novak Djokovic in a cream-colored, jewelry-studded full length gown. The 33-year-old walked down the red carpet of the glamorous event held in London showing off her perfect figure and proving her critics wrong after a recent body-shaming controversy.

The gala also was attended by some of tennis' big names including Djokovic's coach Boris Becker, former champion Marion Bartoli, former British no. 1 Tim Henman, and Wheelchair Doubles Champion Yui Kamiji.
