Vince Vaughn Could Possibly Join ‘True Detective’ for Season 2

Vince Vaughn is reportedly in talks to join the second season of the HBO crime-drama "True Detective."

Entertainment website TVLine was the first to break the news on Monday, saying the 44-year-old actor is already in the early stages of the negotiations.

Then E! News came forward with news from an insider who confirmed that Vaughn has entered discussions to possibly play one of the four lead roles in the series, but no deal has been signed at the moment.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both received Emmy nominations for their portrayals of two detectives in the first season of the drama.

If Vaughn signs on to the series, it will be a change from the comedic roles that he is known for. The actor had many comedy projects, including "Wedding Crashers" and "The Internship," but Vaughn has also veered away from making the audience laugh when he played the psycho in the 1998 remake of "Psycho."

Aside from Vaughn, insiders said actors Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are also in talks to join the cast.

Speculations about a possible new set of actors for "True Detective" Season 2 have started swirling the moment the show's premiere season wrapped in March.

Actors Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain were initially reported to be attached to the project, but that bit of speculation had long since died down.

HBO president Michael Lombardo hinted recently that casting announcements could come any time soon.

"The two scripts we have are, I hate to jinx it, but are more exciting than the first season," Lombardo told reporters during the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour. "(Series creator) Nic Pizzolatto has blown us away with the first two episodes."

Pizzolatto dropped the bomb in the past that "True Detective" Season 2 is going to be about "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."
